Best secured in the car – but what is the situation on an airplane? Kiddy developed child safety car seats with a licence to fly!

Kindersitz Flugzeugzulassung

Since 16/07/2008 children flying on mom or dad's lap must be secured by the so-called loop belt – this is determined by an EU regulation. However, experts consider the belt, which is meant to protect the children in an emergency, a safety risk. Because the loop belt indeed holds the toddler firmly on the lap of an adult during turbulence, but at the same time, the forces of the adult body are transferred to the body of the child. An additional risk is the fact that the loop belt completely runs over the soft tissue section of the toddler. But even without a seat belt the lap is not the safest place during a flight, because during turbulence, parents are not able to hold a child safely and securely on their lap.

More tips and information from the TÜV Rheinland about flying with children can be found here.

It has proven to be expedient to inform the airline of your intention to use the child seat with flight booking. Airline employees do not always of the latest approved lists available at the airport. More detailed information is available on the different airline websites, such as on the official Lufthansa website. Please note: Depending on the type of aircraft, you will need a belt shortener to secure the child seat. This is available in stores or directly from KIDDY. Please contact our hotline: 09281-70800
